How to launch an AI product on X: a 6 week plan

Most AI product launches fail quietly. The team ships, the founder posts, the post gets the usual likes from friends, and a week later nobody can say what the launch achieved. The fix is not a cleverer post. It is treating the launch as a project with a goal, an owner, a plan and a deadline.

This is the plan we use. It assumes six weeks and a launch on X, because that is where AI products get discovered.

Before week 6: decide what the launch is for

Write one sentence: “This launch is successful if ___ by ___.” Signups, paying users, a waitlist size, a number of qualified demos for a sales team. Pick one. A launch that tries to do everything measures nothing.

Then write the positioning sentence: what the product does, for whom, and the outcome. Test it on five people outside the company. If they cannot repeat it back, the launch post will not land either.

Owner: founder plus whoever acts as PM. Done when: both sentences are written down and the team agrees.

Weeks 6 and 5: build the audience you will launch to

X distributes posts to people who already engage with you. A founder account that has been silent for months launches to almost nobody. So the first two weeks are about warming up:

  • Post about the problem three times a week from the founder account. Not the product yet, the problem.
  • Reply to the 30 accounts your buyers follow. Useful replies, not “great post”.
  • Open a waitlist or early access list and put it in the bio.

If this feels slow, that is the point. Audience is the one launch ingredient you cannot buy in the final week. Our guide on pre launch strategy covers this phase in detail.

Week 4: build the launch assets

You need three things:

  1. A launch video. 30 to 60 seconds of the product doing a real task. Captions on. The result visible in the first ten seconds.
  2. A launch thread. Hook, video, what it is, three proof points, the link and a launch perk in the last post. See how to write a launch tweet.
  3. A landing page that matches. Same words, same promise, same video.

Week 3: recruit amplification

This is the step most teams skip and the one that decides reach. List the AI creators and KOLs whose followers look like your buyers. Give them early access. Ask for honest reactions first; ask for launch day posts only from the ones who genuinely like it.

At the same time, plan X ads behind the launch post. Ads that boost the actual launch post add to its engagement. A separate ad competes with it.

Week 2: lock the date and commitments

  • Fix the date and the hour. Check for big AI announcements that could bury yours.
  • Confirm who posts on the day and when.
  • Brief the team and investors with the exact time and what to share.
  • Load test signup and the main flow.

Week 1: tease and rehearse

Run three teaser posts: the problem, a short sneak peek clip, the date reveal. Freeze risky deploys for 48 hours. Rehearse launch day as a team: who posts, who replies, who watches for bugs.

Launch day and the week after

Launch day runs on a schedule, not on energy. We wrote it out hour by hour. The short version: post at the fixed hour, alert your waitlist and amplifiers, switch on ads once engagement is real, reply to everything for three hours.

Then keep going. Post use cases, user reactions and a behind the scenes thread for seven days. Compare the result to the sentence you wrote six weeks earlier, and write down what to repeat.

What a good product launch strategy for AI looks like

A strong product launch strategy for an AI product comes down to three decisions: one goal, one channel done properly, and enough amplification to get past your own followers. Every task in this plan serves one of those three. If a task does not, cut it.

FAQ

How long does it take to launch an AI product?

Six weeks is a comfortable plan for a first launch on X. Teams with an active founder account and a stable product can compress it to two or three weeks.

Is X still the best place to launch an AI product?

For most AI products, yes. AI builders, early adopters, investors and AI creators all follow new launches there, and a single well run launch day can reach all of them.
