Product launch campaign: KOLs, ads and video together

A product launch post reaches your followers. A product launch campaign reaches your market. The difference is four extra pieces, timed to land in the same few hours: AI creators and KOLs, X ads, a launch video, and people running the day. Each piece is useful alone. Together they multiply.

Piece 1: the launch thread

The anchor. Everything else points to it. Write it for strangers, not for fans: outcome first hook, video, plain explanation, proof, link at the end. See how to write a launch tweet.

Piece 2: the launch video

The video is what creators share and what ads run. Make it once, cut it three ways:

  • Main cut: 30 to 60 seconds for the launch post.
  • Short cut: 10 to 15 seconds for ads and replies.
  • Raw clips: unedited screen recordings creators can use in their own posts.

Piece 3: AI creators and KOLs

Creators move the post from your timeline to many timelines. What makes it work:

  • Fit over size. A creator with 20,000 followers who all build with AI beats a general tech account ten times bigger.
  • Real access. Give them the product a week early. Opinions they formed themselves read as real.
  • A window, not a script. Ask them to post in the first two hours. Let them use their own words.
  • Variety. Some quote the main post, some post their own clip, some reply with a use case.

The creator wave teardown breaks this pattern down further.

Piece 4: X ads

Ads give you reach you control. Two rules make them work for launches:

  1. Boost the launch post itself, not a separate ad. Engagement from ads adds to the post’s social proof.
  2. Switch on after organic engagement starts. An hour in, once replies are flowing, ads amplify a post that is already working.

Target by the accounts your buyers follow and by interest in AI tools. Use the short video cut as a separate creative if the main post format underperforms.

Piece 5: the war room

Someone has to run it all on the day: confirm creators posted, switch on ads, answer replies, fix bugs, post the follow up. Without a war room, the pieces land at random times and the multiplier disappears. Our launch day run of show shows the timing.

How the pieces multiply

If you only haveYou get
ThreadYour followers
Thread + videoYour followers, who engage more
+ creatorsYour followers plus their audiences, all in the same hours
+ adsA bigger share of your target market, boosted by real engagement
+ war roomAll of the above, at the right time, with conversation that keeps distribution going

Product launch marketing on a small team

You do not need a big team, but you do need someone who owns each piece. For a three person startup, the founder owns the thread and replies, one person owns creators and ads, and one engineer stays on call.

FAQ

What is a product launch campaign?

A coordinated set of activities around one launch moment: the announcement itself, amplification by creators and KOLs, paid reach, video assets and a plan for the days after. The parts are timed to land together.

Do I need paid ads for a product launch on X?

Not always, but ads behind the launch post are the most controllable way to extend reach beyond your followers and your creators' followers.
